Water Level (only dropping certain amount??)

I have filled up my pool multiple times and the water level keeps dropping, but couple of things.
Last year was the first year we had the pool and it did the same thing for a while then quit, I assumed it was just the pool stretching and getting settled.

This year I was kind of assuming the same thing, but we have had some warm weather and the kids have even been in the pool a few times so I thought it would have stretched and settled by now.
Here is the weirder thing (so far). It seems to only drop to about 1" above the intakes and then stops.

Last night I filled it to where it was over the return, so this morning (8-10 hrs later) the water dropped from above the return to right below it (which is about 1" above the intakes), so I have watched it all day which is another 8 hours and it's still sitting 1" above the intakes.
Any ideas on what could be going on??

I will say that so far this year when it got to 1" above the intake I have kept filling it up, but tonight I am going to let it sit overnight and see if it stays there or drops like it did the night before, but still weird that 8 hours overnight it drops a lot and 8 hours today I can't notice it.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Let us know how it looks in the morning. Since water stops at a leaking area, or at that same height, we tend to focus on anything related to that new (fallen) waterline height. Places like around that return, all around the pool at that waterline, or perhaps back at the equipment pad if it's the same height as the pool. You might also take a look at the filter's waste line to see if water is simply seeping out without you knowing it (bad spider gasket0.

checked the water level this morning and it's the same 1" above the intakes, or right at the bottom of the return.
So, it seems like something around the return?? I know I put the gasket on the inside like I am supposed to, if I don't see it coming from there when the pool is full is there somewhere else I should look?

Texas has you covered......where the water level stops, that is the level of the leak. I assume you are calling the skimmer(s) intakes, correct? The leak is probably right at the skimmers.

I finally found the leak and it's in the side of the pool, it's like something scrapped against it and somewhat punctured it.
It's more weeping than leaking but my only guess is that once the water level gets low the water pressure drops to where it no longer forces it way out, and I say that because this is at least 4" below where the water level stops.

Anyway, I hope to temporarily patch it with some water proof tape or something, and then use the patch that came with pool to really fix it when we are ready to drain the pool. Guess I will have to see if what ever temporary tape I can find will hold for that long, if not I will just bite the bullet and drain and fix.
Just need to find a good PVC glue the instructions said to use.
