Water is clear, deep sections have green tint, don't think it's algae

Hi TFP,

This is my first house with a pool, and my first pool season. The pool is 12.2k gallons with a pebbletec finish. The shallow ends and some of the deep ends show the pebbletec finish, while some parts of the deep end have a green tint and I'm not sure why.

The water is absolutely clear - I can see very clearly to the bottom of the deep end - no cloudiness (pictures attached). I did the Overnight FC Loss Test and lost less than .5PPM. Pool chemistry (measured by my own TF-Pro Salt kit and the folks at Pinch-A-Penny) consistently show 0 (or sometimes .5) combined chlorine. There is green/yellow pollen/residue on the screen enclosure, and a lot of green trees that may be causing some green shadows?

Pool chemistry (no SWG, but I'm going to be adding one soon, so there is salt in the pool):
Sep 9: CYA: 60, FC: 11.0, CC: 0, PH: 7.4, TA: 50, CH: 225, Salt: Didn't measure.
- It rained a ton so I had to drain water .... but it's also "feels like" >100 degrees daily in central Florida which causes a lot of evaporation which required refilling. I think this is causing some chemistry to be all over the place.
Sep 16: CYA: 30, FC: 6.0, CC: 0, PH: 7.8, TA: 60, CH: 350, Salt: 2600

I am attaching pictures of the pool water.

Is it possible that it's some metal or something similar? I haven't tried any clarifiers, flocculants, sequestering agents, etc because TFP has scared me from them :)

Hopefully someone can help me to understand the green tint? Maybe I should SLAM even though I passed the Overnight FC Loss Test?

Thanks!

I'll guess here and suggest that the color variance is the PebbleTec color which looks a lot like mine does. Mine is green to dark blue depending on the light angle in various parts of the pool. Up close my Pebble looks mottled grey. The fact that you see clearly to the bottom and the details there I don't think you have algae. My pool from Google maps is definitely green compared to all of my neighbors that have plaster.

Also, note the green area in the spa section - clearly light filtering in from the overhead screening. And since it is the same as the gradation seen in the main pool - color from the screening, light angles, the PebbleTec itself, and changing refraction as the water gets deeper. Getting the green off the screen enclosure would likely help. White balance in photos is a tricky thing, but there seems to be a slight green cast to the concrete areas as well....

Mine is somewhat the same. The steps get more sun, which I assume bleaches them over time.
They’re also in water that’s more shallow. You can see the difference in both pics which were
taken minutes apart….so same conditions for both. Deeper water gets darker, just like at the beach.
Your pool looks normal to me. 🙂 And if it's not, I have work to do too!

Here is mine. You'll notice the color gradient in part sun vs full sun and it's interesting that with a white incandescent pool light it looks totally green at night. My steps have always been grey so no bleaching that I can tell though it's been 22 years now.
