This is exactly how it should be treated. My concern was and still is the rebar. That's the least reinforcement I've ever seen which is especially concerning because is looks like your soil is mostly sand.

If you don't have an independent pool engineer that you can engage to perform an independent 3rd party review I would call the folks below. Look at the FAQ's and other pertinent sections and click on the "consulting services" tab. I've never used these folks but they appear to be very active in pool design and construction support. A lot of owner builders use these folks and you can read many posts on this site that reference them for the design. I would start with two questions:
- How should this repair be performed?
- What is your professional opinion of the design that is being used?
