Waiting anxiously for my test kit...but why so cloudy

You need to resume the
SLAM Process & make sure you’re passing all 3 end of slam criteria before ending.
You are done when:

✅ CC is 0.5 or lower;
✅ You pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
AND
✅ The water is clear.
(Crystal Clear w/no algae dead or alive)

You should be able to pass all those criteria before closing anyway- this, along with all the other steps in the closing article, ensures a smooth opening in the spring assuming you close after the water is in the low 60’s & falling
and you open before it rises much above 60 degrees in the spring.

Ok so my pool looks fine after my 5 day trip, still very clear, just leaves to rake up. My family did not add chlorine except for one day...oh well. Chlorine was at 24 for the slam, and it has drifted to 10. I wanted to go back to the "is my SLAM done" question, specifically about "dirt" on the bottom of the pool. When i used to brush, there was a lot of yellow dust. Now there's a very small amount of gray dust. No yellow 💪. Does the gray dust also completely die/filter with the SLAM?

If I stop now with the SLAM, as the season is almost over, what will be the implications? I may have to start a SLAM in the spring? Do people tend to SLAM at pool opening anyway? I guess I'm leaning towards maintaining a slightly higher than recommended chlorine level and then just revisiting everything in the spring.
You’de be wise to hold up on closing the pool until at least November. You have plenty of time to finish the SLAM and then when you open in March/April you won’t need to SLAM.

@Bperry I see you're in Knoxville. Do you wait until November to close? Right now we have a closing date of 10/30 w a guy coming to help cover the pool and blow the lines.

I Don’t close until the beginning of December. The leaves are a pain right now but if you have a temporary cover, you can put that on and it’ll kind of slow them down, but I just scoop them every day. I have a neighbor that doesn’t close at All. That doesn’t seem wise though since we do usually get ice.

I’m in north Mississippi so a bit south of you and I generally fully close about Halloween. At that time my water temp is low 60’s & falling .
I use a solid cover and close at slam level fc. I always open clear and with at least target fc levels.
