You should only have to clean your filter at the end of the season, which in Nebraska is about 3 days.
If you have a 30K pool you will need a 60K cell. The idea that you must "turnover" your pool x times a day is just not true. It does not hurt anything, but you should not run your pump just based on turnovers.
I run my pump 24/7 because I like making a little chlorine all the time and I also like skimming all the time. I have a neighbor that has a single speed pump. Obviously not something you want to run 24/7. What I noticed about his pool, is that when the pump off, the pool becomes a trash magnet. It would drive me crazy.
