Very slightly cloudy water

Hi All,

Been loving our pool this summer since I had help with the Iron issue a month or two ago.

Recently I've discovered that in the sunlight, i can see the bottom steps of our ladder appear just ever so slightly cloudy. Probably wouldn't even notice it without the ladder.

FC 10
PH 7.5
CYA 50
ALK 80
CH 100

The FC has never dipped below 4, but generally I keep it around 8.

There's no combined chlroine.

Overnight FC loss is only 1ppm.

The only thing I've noticed that's strange is that I'm having a little bit of trouble keeping the pH in check, but i suspect that's more to do with adding too much washing soda when my pH was getting down and then testing too soon.

The other thing worth mentioning is that last week the pump was clogged and I didn't notice it, so it wasn't circulating as well as it should have been. But, I cleaned the pump, replaced the filter with a new one, and I've had that pump going for 4 days now without issues. Also I use a solar cover.

Ideas?

You described two items than can make the water, at best, look dull. Worse case a bit cloudy. Too much washing soda and the pump being off due to a clogged filter.

I'm going to keep the pump going full time for now.

As for the washing soda, I've added around 22 oz of washing soda over the life of this fill. (5,000 gallons). Is that enough to permanently dull the water? Is there a resolution or just ignore it?

Not permanently. Washing soda raises ph and really adds TA. Better, if your pH is below 7 and your TA is above 50, is to aerate. If your TA is below 50, add baking soda. Washing soda is a sledge hammer, used when you have very very low pH and 0 TA.

OCLT was only .5 loss, so we're good there. Left the pump running full time overnight, cleaned the new filter from last weekend (it was dirtier than I expected so something's coming out). TA=80, pH=7.7

If the cloudiness was the washing soda, how long does that take to clear up?

Otherwise if it's just particulates, I guess run the pump until it clears?
