Hi All

I am here out of curiosity and as I kind of miss retail counter work. I have worked in the pool industry since 1986, but before running off and putting me with the bunch of folks that work in pool stores perhaps read on.

As I understand it, I contributed to the use of Titanium heat exchangers in heat pumps about 1989. This was a suggestion I made to a guy who made heat pumps in our country at the time, and following on from this, Titanium heat exchangers are now commonplace.

Nowadays I work exclusively in the commercial pool space. I may not be as familiar with the new salt chlorinator or the latest controller, but, have a wealth of international experience in real-world solving all sorts of issues. I have worked on such issues as evacuated tube solar not working for 10 years despite 'experts' tinkering with it - and solved it, microbial contamination for public facility immediately following opening requiring redesign of filtration systems, been through HACCP process on one of my spray pad designs and so on.

So if I can contribute I will.

Welcome 🤗
All those that currently enjoy titanium heat exchangers surely appreciate you!
We’ve got a couple Australian folks here that are regulars so you’re in good company 👍🏻

Hey David and Welcome !!!

Our chemistry is a bit from the norm, but a pump is a pump, ya know ? Glad to have you.

Here's how we roll
Pool Care Basics
FC/CYA Levels
Actually, the chemistry is not that different at all. Somewhere along the way between 1987 and 2023 it seems the fundamentals got distorted.

There is some differences in turnover and filter data, however that is understandable as I am used to 300 persons in a pool not 3.
Yes that's one of mine. It is aimed more at the local market here and complies with our local requirements. However can be used anywhere.
What is your recommendation for a high use indoor commercial pool that gets a lot of chloramines?
Richard Falk has suggested adding stabilizer, I haven't tried it as my indoor pools chlorine probes are not tolerant of cyanuric. This is really an entirely separate topic. Perhaps start a post and we can discuss it in there.
"introduced a carbon dioxide consumption reduction chemical balance"

Can you explain what this is?
Yes. I am working on a book on this topic. I keep changing my mind on it. Effectively this requires an understanding of Langeliers, basic chemistry easiest being with HCl, Henrys law and some equipment tweaks. Over a period of about 5 years we installed more CO2 systems by head of population than any other place in Australia. All of that off the back of this understanding.
