Venturi Return (effect on flow)

I've got an intex pool with an upgraded pump. The return included with the pool has a 1.5" intake but flows through a venturi that is maybe 1/2" at its smallest part (where the air intake is). I like this return because it helps to aerate the pool, but I was wondering if anyone knew how much the venturi is restricting the flow of my pump.

The flow didn't really improve with the bigger pump, making me think that 1/2" restriction is the problem.

Can you remove the eyeball?

Didn't seem like it. I could probably remove the entire return and put in one of the 1.5" inlets from the suction side. I just wouldn't have a jet or any aeration then.

For anyone wondering in the future I figured out you can just pull the entire venturi out of the return. As long as you leave the check-valve air intake in it will function as a normal 1.5" return with no restriction.
