I'm sorry, I know this has been asked 100 times, and I think I've read them all, but I still don't know where to start. My pool builder told me to keep my pump at 2500rpm 24/7. I don't have a SWG. I manually chlorinate with liquid chlorine. My signature says I have a Frog but I don't use it anymore. The water still flows through it, but the Frog is empty. I'll remove it and re-plumb at some point. I have a gas heater that requires 25GPM (per the manual). I have an automatic cover that stays closed whenever we're not using the pool. Since it stays closed most of the day, we don't get much surface debris.

I'm kind of a math nerd, and was experimenting finding the GPM flow rate at different RPMs. Sounds like you all don't really bother with these numbers, but I'm attaching what I calculated anyway.

Can you suggest a schedule that I can use as my starting point?

Then you do not need to run the pump all that much. If you are adding liquid chlorine, you need to run a couple hours after that. Otherwise, it is to skim. So if the cover is open, I would run the pump. If the cover is closed, then 4-6 hours a day is more than enough. With adding the liquid chlorine during that time. The rpm can be set fairly low also. With your pump, I would try 1725 rpm.

I run my VSP on low speed (1600rpm) 24/7, and then it bumps up to a higher setting for a couple hours. I also manually increase it when I run the heater. Both to satisfy the requirement for GPM of the heater, and an attempt to extend the heater’s lifespan.
