Valve configuration for new lines

Hi all,

Pool renovation in progress. Part of the job they ran four brand new lines and abandoned all old plumbing (from the 1970s).

Now I have two 1.5” returns and two 1.5” suctions. They said they will connect them with three way valves (rather than individual valves on each). I was thinking about it and I think this is fine but I’m wondering if this has enough flexibility for closing the pool - like blowing lines individually.

I think the valves they use can be set so any individual or both of the returns can be opened. Same with the suction. Any thoughts?

Now that I have more suction and returns should the common to and from the pump be larger than 1.5”??

Thanks,
Matt

If you have a good blower like a Cyclone you can easily blow 2 lines at once.

How many skimmers do you have? Do you have a main drain?

The returns are shallow enough that my
Shop vac can blow them out. Same with the skimmer.

I used to have a deep (6 feet) wall suction, but with this renovation I had to settle for a wall drain only about 3 feet down (trade off between cost and functionality and getting new piping). Even 3 feet deep the shop vac should be able to handle it.

I guess my bigger concern was am I giving anything up with the 3 ways vs having individual valves?
