HI. I just took a 27' round scumming green pool to clear in 3 days. I feel quite successful. I had to switch to an inherited Perflex DE filter last year and have a question regarding vacuuming. With a large amount dead algae on the bottom of the pool, I feel I should vacuum to waste but it seems it will still pass through the fingers of the filter anyway. What method of vacuuming is recommended in my situation and would it be necessary to disassemble (the 30 nuts and bolts) on this EC-60 to clean off the fingers afterwards?

Remove the drain plug and go to the hardware store and buy a threaded stub or a ball valve and whatever else you'll need to make a waste line. Then go ahead and vacuum to waste with the valve open, same as when you replace the DE.

The dirty water fills up from below on your filter and the DE is on the outside of those fingers. So bump it a few times, open up, amd vacuum. When you're done, recharge the DE.

When the SLAM is all done, you'll probably want to take all those bolts apart and clean things real good. They sell socket adaptors that chuck into a cordless drill. It will save you a lot of effort.

I just did find a similar post from last year which sated if it's "soft and fluffy", LOL, just vacuum through the filter if no port. i decided to turn off the filter due to time of day with thougts that even more may settle. This prompts another question - is it ok to let a pool sit without circulation when the FCl is still above 10? AGP vinyl liner. All other chemistry in balance (except CH is low)

Sitting is okay, now that the chlorine is all mixed. You don't want to add chemicals to a pool with no circulation is all.

Edit: if you plan to let things settle out to vacuum up, leave the vacuum in place, just disconnect it so the pump starts easier tomorrow. Also, low CH is not really a problem in a vinyl lined pool.

Didn't see your post before I wrote that. Thank you. I forgot about it filling up from below. Was thinking backwards. Oh my. So yes, will do. Already have a ball valve on the waste so good to go. Thanks again. A little vacuum, a little brushing and fingers crossed, sparkly by end of the week. Wish I would have taken pics to inspire others not be be discouraged by a shockingly green pool opening.
