Soooooooo advice needed:

I will be out of town for the next 3 1/2 weeks. Hubby and house sitters will be here though

My plan:
Have them add 1 1/2 gal of bleach twice a week and a 2c sock of CYA every other week

I will leave ph and all other #'s be until I get back

Such a mother hen about my pool now that it is so darn pretty!!!

My CYA has been at about 30/40 until now but I am coming off of a SLAM and CYA of 0 before this.

So to recap:
1 1/2 gal of bleach twice a week and 2 c sock of CYA every other week?
My ph likes to run high should I have hubby drop that before he leaves?

Thank you

Some people in sunny areas like to run their CYA around 50 so it wouldn't hurt to bring it up some as long as you know what that does for a SLAM.

Alternatively you could add a couple pucks to a floater each week to maintain the FC level and up the CYA level at the same time. Maybe talk the hubby into checking the FC level before he leaves so you can tell him how much chlorine to add.

And yes he should test and drop the pH prior to leaving and more importantly before people go swimming in it.

You could have them continue with that same pattern while you are away. Adding more chlorine twice a week will actually speed up chlorine loss since it is consumed exponentially, and if people are swimming, that will increase the chlorine demand. Should they forget a dose that could lead to a cloudy pool. Every other day will be easier to remember. Make them a little check off chart, maybe even line up the chlorine jugs with the dates to be used on them so they can easily keep track.

Have hubby check and adjust the pH before he leaves.

I wouldn't worry about the CYA too much.

Ok so I thought I would post the results of my vacation.

Good News, it looked great when I got home. No real visible algae but it didn't pass the OCLT test so I slammed it for 2 days and it passed on the second day :)

My CYA was at 60 when the preferred level was 40-50 but I feel like that will come down quick with all the rain and horrifically hot weather we are having so I am not concerned.

Everything else was in acceptable ranges so I am so very happy.

Thanks all for your help

Ya, congrats. I took a 2 week vacation back in July. Had a friend put in the prescribed amount of bleach twice a week, plus ran some trichlor tabs through the chlorinator (which I normally don't do). Didn't ask them to deal with acid additions. Came back to a clear pool with somewhat high pH, but no Algae... considered it a great success.

I'd think a CYA level of 60 would be almost perfect, unless you have a shade source of some sort. A CYA of 60 is what I keep here in Oklahoma, where we have our own share of sun and heat.
