Hello, I have been using the TFP method for my pool since the first week installed. I am going on vacation in a month and will be gone for a week. I was thinking about using tablets to chlorinate my pool while I am gone but I don't know what or how many to buy. Also what type of dispenser to purchase and how to set it up. I am planning on leaving the pump running 24/7 while I'm gone . Any help is appreciated Thanks.
My test results are:
FC - 4
CC - 0
PH - 7.6
CYA - 30
TA - 80
CH - 150

You would need to buy a floating chlorinator like this Amazon.com : AquaAce Floating Pool Chlorine Dispenser, Premium Floater Classic Design, Chemical Holder for Chlorine Tablets up to 3", Adjustable 15 Flow Vents for Increased Control : Gateway . It holds up to about 5 of the 3" tablets at a time. 5 trichlor tablets would yield you about 16ppm free chlorine and about 10ppm increase in CYA. That combined with raising the chlorine to about 10 or 15ppm before you leave and running the pump the whole time and you should be good to go.

If your pool is otherwise healthy, it'll survive. Just like skipping a few meals won't hurt a healthy person but might push a sick one over the edge.

I've left mine for a week at a time several times and never had it go green on me. I bought the cheapest floater they had at the store. I stuffed four pucks in it because that was all it would hold. Raised the water level to max. Got everything balanced. Added an extra gallon of bleach right before I left. Gone for a week. Came home., pool still clear. Still had a few chips of puck left in the floater, too.

And since week in and week out for the past five years I've never had a problem with my pump or timer, I didn't do anything special, there, either.
