Using More Powder

I ordered a refill kit for tft-100 this year. The new powder for FC testing seems less potent. (I have to put a lot of more the powder into the pool water to make it turn pink,
compared to the my prior testing powder). Has anyone else noticed this? Is the new refill powder/reagent just as accurate as the prior ones?

The powder is sourced from Taylor and, over the years has been very consistent.

The common reason for having to use more powder is lack of chlorine in your pool.

Thanks for your insight. I'm currently slamming due to algae and no chlorine.

While slamming I had this question: My cya is 50-60, so slam goal is 20-24. To get to 24 FC you have to use 48 drops of 871 reagent.
Would it be valid to dilute the pool by half using tap water, then double my FC result (using half the 871 drops)?

In a pinch, or perhaps for a short period (or alternating w/ regular testing), I might just use a 5ml water sample. Then each drop equals one FC. That can help for a while.

If you go to a small sample size, like 5-mL to get 1 drop = 1 ppm, then I like to use a 5-mL syringe to accurately measure the sample size.
