My neighbour is getting rid of their above ground pool (12x24 oval). How are these things at being taking apart and put back together? Not a good idea? I’m fine with getting a new liner.
I sold one a few years back. As we were dismantling it, we discovered the whole bottom track was rusted out. This pool was about 12 years old at the time. The buyer still wanted to buy it and was certain he could find a new bottom track for it.
How old is the pool you are trying to get? Is your neighbor giving it to you or selling it to you? It's not too terrible to take apart if the hardware is not rusted together, and you are handy. I would be cautious about installing the new liner though. It's not as easy as it looks.
It’s a bit of work but doable with care- before committing be sure that there are replacement parts available incase you tear something up or there are some damaged/rusted. Also download the manual if possible so you can be sure you put the pool back up correctly.
You’ll definitely need a new liner.
When you remove the liner, inspect the walls well, if there’s rust on them you may want to pass on the opportunity. A new wall costs about as much as a whole new pool.
Get some rustoleum spray paint so you can coat any areas that you may nick/scratch in the process.
