Hello all! Our pool guy was having trouble keeping our pool levels and we kept seeing yellow growth. He claimed that we were using it too much. He recommended PoolRX and after applying it to the pool it does keep the chlorine at a good level, prior he was having to add chlorine twice a week and that still was not cutting it. Back ground..... we replaced the water completely and figured maintaining the pool would be easier but in less then a year we have had two filter cleanings. Our last pool guy only did it once a year. So starting to wonder about these pool guys taking the easy way out and putting the cost on me. I am now worried that something is not right, thinking the pool guy is not cutting it. Should a pool company ever tell a customer they are using the pool too much? I figured it was their job to make that problem go away for us?

Does copper (the key component of PoolRx) help keep algae at bay? Absolutely

Does keeping algae at bay mean a sanitary pool with balanced chemistry? Absolutely not

Can copper have more long-term consequences that may be worse than any algae bloom? Can and almost certainly will eventually

Should a pool company ever tell a client they are using the pool too much? Heck no!

Oh my..... fire that joker.

We use our pool every day during the summer, never a speck of algae.

Pool Rx is a waste of your money. Maintaining the proper FC level is key to a sanitary pool. Before I switched to a SWG I would add chlorine daily to maintain the proper residual sanitizer (FC).

If your pool guy was having trouble, clearly that is an indication he has absolutely no idea about chemistry in residential pools, etc.

Most pools should be dosed with chlorine, whether manual or by an SWG daily, but a person could get away with dosing the pool twice a week if levels were kept at bay. It is much harder to dose a pool every few days as you will burn a percentage and not a flat amount, thereby consuming more chlorine. Although, a pool professional could easily maintain your pool this way, but has to be on top of his game. You will still have to be somewhat pro-active with your pool.

Back to your pool guy. He clearly has no idea on what he is doing, and if you want to use a professional, find someone who understands pools and chemistry. There are many variables in taking care of a pool, from having the correct CYA/FC ratio, to brushing regularly to avoid dead spots in the pool. My bet is your chlorine dropped below what is necessary to keep a pool sanitary and the lack of brushing. It is time to take control of your own pool moving forward. Please rely on us to help out.

In addition, please add your signature so we know what type of pool, equipment, etc. you have. Thank you.
