I Have an old inground pool/spa combo originally installed with a Jandy Aqualink RS16 system programmed at the inside RS16 pad with 2 power/control boxes. The filter pump which is used by both the Pool and Spa was an old Sta-Rite 1.5 HP single speed pump. The pump has failed and I want to put in a Pentair Intelliflow 3Hp VSF pump. The pump is controlled via its RS485 port or on its built in pad. I want to get my "old" Jandy system to be able to run the system and have access to to programming the Intelliflow pump speeds. My understanding is it possible but I've encountered much confusion surrounding specifics.
Since my Jandy control boxes are early 2000 vintage, I'm hoping someone can help me integrate the Intelliflow. I've heard it would be best to upgrade my Jandy to their new iAqualink so all the programming is integrated into one place. Since my pump speed must be changed occasionally for side pressure cleaner, Solar heating, Spa use, Spa overflow ( they use the main filter pump), a fixed schedule doesn't seem to make any sense. For example, I currently just hit my Spa button on the RS16 pad and it turns on the single speed pump and redirects the flow to the Spa. But the RS16 pad doesn't appear to know anything about variable sped programming and just creating a fixed schedule for pump rate doesn't take into account the Spa, Cleaner, Solar, plus it just turns a 240V relay circuit to the existing Sta-Rite pump on and off. The Jandy and Intelliflow have an RS485 network but if the Jandy doesn't understand the VSF pump programming in any way.
I'm thinking the old Jandy RS16 needs to be upgraded to the new iAqualink wifi system by adding a new board at the control box and tying the Intelliflow to the RS485 interface. Even which way is not well explained. But there has been so many revisions of the Jandy control box PCB and system, its hard to know the exact upgrade path to integrating the old Jandy to a control system that can run the Intelliflow programming and general control and the phone App seems the only way to do it smoothly.
I'm having trouble even via my pool guy, how exactly this all works. It seems without upgrading to both the Pentair Intelliflow 3HP and the new iAqualink 3, its pretty funky and not obvious how it works nicely. Will the iAqualink actually work with an old vintage control board of the early 2000's. Can anyone help explain how this can be done? I've been using the simple fairly dumb inside Aqualink RS16 panel to do all immediate control and programming for years. Upgrading seems the way to go but the devils in the details and I was on 5 hour hold at Jandy tech support.
Any ideas appreciated. Tom
