Upgrading 18' pool filter - cartridge or sand?

After researching this topic a ton, I'm stuck with deciding which would be the correct way to go. I have an 18' best way above ground pool with the standard 1500 gph cartridge filter. I've narrowed down to doing either a larger Intex 2500 GPH filter pump for about $150 or going with an Intex 16" sand filter and using glass media for about $400. I'm not sure if the cheaper cartridge filter is plenty for our pool or if its worth paying the extra now and going to a sand filter. I don't want it to be barely an upgrade over what we have now. Anyone have any recommendations? Located in Nebraska.

Hey there and welcome to TFP :) I would go with the sand filter independent of the pump, and use actual pool sand in it. I see no reason to spend extra dollars on glass media that doesn't necessarily work any better than bazillion year old sand. Sand lasts. It does the trick and can be cleaned if needed.
