Upgrade to Variable Speed Pump worth it?

I’m finding the VS pump online for about 650. He is charging me that amount without taking out the price from the dual speed pump he was giving me. Should I try to buy it myself and have him install it?

This is not unusual my builder did the same to me when I upgraded from a single speed to VSP. I ended up getting my own quote to come in after he was done and upgrade all the equipment, which I showed them, and then they lowered their price to account for me not getting the to keep the single speed pump.

you want a big enough salt cell, if your pool is close to 20k gallons get the PL bundle with a T15 cell not a smaller one. also I would upgrade to a larger cartridge filter, the price from that to a 400sqft cartridge is like 200 bucks the plumbing is the same. You want a tristar VSP not a leftover ecostar their drives had lots of problems
