I bought the 4-wheel PoolCleaner almost 10 years ago. It worked really well until late last summer. It was going around in circles and did not want to go straight. As a result, it does not reach either ends of the pool. All 4 wheels were replaced in Feb. 2019 so I don't think it is a tire problem but it can be. Has anyone had this problem?

I asked the ebay vendor from whom I bought the tires, he recommended that I buy the Upgrade Kit for the PoolCleaner. Does anyone know how the upgrade kit work? Is it really necessary to make my PoolCleaner work properly again?

Thanks.

I bought that upgrade kit for the 4 wheel model about a year ago, however there was a part that was broken that the upgrade kit replaced so it worked out for me. These devices are pretty simple so you should do some more diagnostics to see what is actually wrong, then you can make a decision to buy the upgrade kit. Let me see if there is any info in the wiki for the PoolCleaner.

EDIT: Here is a good link on troubleshooting that cleaner.

I didn't see anything on that cleaner in the wiki. I would start buy hooking the cleaner up in the pool like normal and while keeping it in the water turn it on it's side; with the pump on. You are looking to see all of the wheels are turning, do that and report back.

I just got the M600/active 60 Robot so mine might get sold also, but I may just keep it because it does work great just in case my robot dies... :)

Yes, all the wheels are turning while I held it sideways under water. I could not get it to lay on its side long enough to see if the wheels are turning.

You just hold the unit, you don't need to put it down. If the wheels are moving I'm not sure what it is. I would look over the manual and take it apart to see if there are any pieces that are broken.

Nice thing about these units is that you can easily get replacement parts and they are easy to repair.

So my solution to the problem with The Pool Cleaner was to buy a new one. It cost me $419 at Walmart.com with free shipping. Hopefully it will last another 10 years. It is just like my old one, nothing fancy, but it is being sold by Hayward instead.
