Unused suction side port, what should I do with it?

Hello,

I have a suction side port that I used to use for suction-side cleaning. I've recently switched to using a robot cleaner. The side port is closed with a snap-lock wall fitting on the pool side. On the equipment end, I have the valve shut off going to the side port. So there is some water trapped in the pipe between the side port and the pump.

My questions are:
Is this setup ok?
Is it bad to have water trapped in the pipe like that?
Is there a more preferred way to deal with my unused side port?

Should not be a problem. I have the exact same thing and have never open the unused cleaner port.

You are not in an area that has deep freezes. For lurkers, I wouldn’t leave that water trapped in the pipe in a freeze prone area.

Purge it, plug it on both sides. Then you will have an intact line to use a return, when/if your returns fail.

All of the above plus, you can still use it when you go away on vacation to keep your pool clean while you’re gone. Just drop in the old hose and vacuum, and enjoy a clean pool when you get back.
