I know it's recommended here not to close until the temp drops below 60. Until then, do you recommend to maintain the pool the same as summer, as in running the pump, cleaning, testing, adding chemicals, etc.?
As the temps cool, you may be able to reduce that. You need enough pump run time to circulate your chemicals and provide adequate skimming. If you have trees close that start to drop their leaves before you close, you need to take that additional debris load into consideration.
Your reward for closing late and opening early is an increased chance to open to clear water.
