Umbrella sleeve built into the concrete decking around the pool (no in the pool).

The Waterway sleeve is $17 each. I'm wondering how easy these are to build.

Is it just 1.5" schedule 40 PVC with a cap on the bottom (drilled hole in cap for drainage). The top is a threaded female adapter. And a cap that sits flush on top (painted to match decking).

2" or 1.75" You can make them yourself by just sticking a piece of PVC in with a cap on the bottom. Leave a small hole when the gunite goes in, install the sleeve at plaster.

But why not splurge and get the $17 you are blowing the grandchildren's college fund on the pool as it is. Just go for it.

You're forgetting the umbrella sleeves come with a color matched cap... Nearly priceless.

I don't think I pay more than $10 for the Waterway sleeves. They certainly look better when not in use than home brewed PVC would but there is no reason why what you're proposing wouldn't work.
