Ugh - Pool leak and cover fell in...

Looks like I have a small leak in my above ground pool as the cover has been slowly falling in over the last month and today it finally went into the pool. It's still winter in New England and we still have a while to go. Should I just leave the cover in the pool as its currently frozen in the pool and then pull it out once I can? The pool water level is about 6" below the skimmer and hopefully it will stay there so I can find the hole.

Anything else I should be doing?

Maybe a return plug popped out ? You are fine with only being that low if it doesn't drain further. The only wall concerns you have is a half or more empty pool being blown apart in the wind. 2/3 and up is fine.

Got pics ? Is the skimmer open ? If so the water/ice on the cover may have been pushing down on the pool water and it rose up the edge of the pool and out the skimmer.

has an aquadoor winter cover on it.
Many of those leak like a sieve. I couldn't understand all the terrible reviews on them, but when I moved and inherited an above ground pool that needed one, it took 5 minutes to get it. The new plug was perfectly square. The skimmer itself was ever so distorted from UV and no longer perfectly square/plum. The brand new plug with lots of rubber to seal the gaps leaked enough to fill the skimmer in an hour.

If it didn't leak from the get-go, it may have once the cold shrunk the skimmer plastic 52 microns (?).

It could still be a liner issue that you didn't catch in time at closing. But it could also very well be fine.

Keep us posted. :)
