it is going to get quite cold here tomorrow (low 20s) and wanted to get peoples thoughts about running the heater during the day to get the water temp up a few degrees before it gets very cold tomorrow night. More worried about negative issues with the pool trying to use heater to help and not so much the cost of heating.

Your signature does not say what heater you have.

The Pentair MasterTemp Heaters say:
  • Operating this heater continuously at water temperatures below 68° F. (20° C) will cause harmful condensation and will damage the heater and void the warranty.
  • When starting the heater for the swimming season with a water temperature below 50° F (10° C), the heater may be used to heat the water; however, make sure that the heater operates continuously until the water temperature reaches the heater’s minimum setting of 68° F (20° C).
The Hayward H-Series heaters say "Do not use the heater to maintain the water temperature just above freezing or for freeze protection."

We have a Jandy JXI400N. Current water temps is 56 so was going to get that up to around 60 and then turn it off and over the next couple days that will drop but the extra 3-4 degrees would help keep temp up a bit,

I think you heater will struggle to give you much of a temperature rise if you don't have a pool cover.

I am not sure what you expect to accomplish by running the heater and I don't think it will make any difference in your situation.
