Turned pump on for the first time

I probably didnt backwash long enough but the filter is working!! I also attached an Intex deluxe pool skimmer. I'm wondering if there are cons to the water coming into the pipe nearer the surface rather than where the hole is. Thoughts?

Roughly how much time should backwashing take?

I have never backwashed more than a minute, maybe 1.5 minutes. My backwash starts out clean, then gets real dirty, then as soon as it's back to clean, rinse for 10 seconds, then back to filter.
