Trying to understand Jep-R, AquaLink and iAquaLink interplay

I feel like a rookie (and I guess I am), but I'm stumped by what's going on... I service company recently installed a new Jandy VS FloPro (VSFHP1) pump, a JEP-R controller, an AquaLink RS control system, and the iAquaLink web-connect device.

I'm now struggling to make sense of some aspects (and unfortunately can't go back to the company that installed it for support). The good news is that most everything seems to work. There is a schedule in iAquaLink and the pool and spa actuators respond on schedule that. And if I use iAquaLink to shut things off the pump stops, just like I would expect it to.

But what doesn't appear to work is the variable speeds that I am setting in the schedule. I have iAquaLink setup for a few different speeds (call them low, medium and high), and I've tried to set the schedule to switch between those. But whenever I go to the actual JEP-R it says it's running at 2400 RMP on Speed 2, and I can't figure out how to do anything in iAquaLink to change that.

In going through the manuals I'm not sure whether the JEP-R has been setup properly or not. The dip switches are On-On-Off-Off-On... Based on the documentation I thought maybe I needed to change those to Off-Off-Off-Off-On, but when I did that and fired things back up the JEP-R didn't seem to power up at all - the screen stayed blank.

I guess I'm confused over what the expected interplay is between the JEP-R and the Aqualink/iAqualink controller. Do I have to do something different to get the controllers to be able to set the VSP speed?

According to the manual, the RS should be able to communicate directly with the pump. From page 11:
VS FloPro Controller Options The VS FloPro pump can be operated by one (1) of five (5) controllers: the JEP-R variable-speed controller, iQPUMP01 controller, the AquaLink RS controller (Rev O or later), the AquaLink PDA (Rev 4.0 or later), or the AquaLink Z4. The VS FloPro variable-speed pump communicates with the controllers via a four-wire RS-485 interface.

At no point in that information does it say this "and" that. It is "or."

From point 5 on that page:
5. If short RS-485 cable or JEP-R controller is pre installed: a. Disconnect the RS-485 cable from the 4-pin header on the pump drive.

Can you post a picture of the Aqualink control system? Also the pump and controller.

Okay, that was super helpful, thank you! (Even though I have the manual and read over those sections a dozen times, highlighting what was needed helped.) I'll list out what I figured out in case it helps anyone else, and I have one or two follow-up questions.

I now understand that the Aqualink RS controls power to the pump separately from controlling the VSP of the pump. That was part of my initial confusion. So my installer left it with the RS controlling power but the JEP-R controlling the VSP, and so even though I could use Aqualink to start and stop the pump on the Aqualink schedule, it wasn't changing the speeds.

So I basically unwired the JEP-R and wired the Aqualink and now it all seems to be working. But I think what that means is that I got scammed by the installer - the JEP-R is now basically a brick, if I'm not mistaken. It no longer has any role to play and isn't even lighting up... That sucks, but that's fine given that things are now working the way I want (which is to be able to control things remotely and on a schedule).

So here's my one question: is there a way to definitively know what speed the pump is running at now? The JEP-R showed the RPMs on the screen, but that's now turned off. I know that the Aqualink is setting the speed based on the schedule, but is there anywhere in the iAqualink software - or anywhere else - that I can look at and know what speed the VSP is currently running at, or do you just have to deduce it by looking at the schedule and figuring out what schedule is running "right now?"

Yes your aqualink app will tell you. Do you have a web link in the upper right corner? Have you ever accessed aqualink from your home computer?
