yes and we removed them from the pool also and nothing is still happening, the sticker came off of the valve where you turn it to backwash and etc., so we really don't know what's what, what should we do about that?

You can search this site for your particular valve or you can post the brand and model and somebody probably has one they can post a pic of.
We found the picture of sticker with the different settings, we set the valve to backwash but once again nothing happened, could there be something wrong with the filter, possibly it being old or something of that nature?
If you try to run water backwards through the pump basket toward the pool what happens? Does water come out at the skimmer?
Then either the valve is set wrong or the plumbing is plugged up. Did you try turning the valve the other way while trying to force water back through the piping?

No, trying to force the water from the pump back to the skimmer. There's a valve in the suction line near the pump. What happens when you change the position of that valve?

We were able to get the pool operating for a short time. My son ran his hand down the outside of hose that runs from the filter, which released the pressure and the gauge went up to 16psi. Then we ran the pool on filter and water was come from the pool and returning. Then, we turned the system off and it stopped working all together.
We were able to get the water to from the pump to the pool and return. Now the water is coming out of the pool as if it's constanty on backwash or something. What should we do?
