Trouble Installing Intermatic PE733P Programmable Smart Wi-Fi Pool Timer

Hello - I'm struggling installing an Intermatic PE733P. I have filter pump + booster pump + pump (controlling water fall). When powered up mode "manual" lights "yellow". Pressing mode goes to "service" with red light. Pressing mode goes back to "manual" where it stays solid yellow. Load (red) lines set to "Com 1", "Com 2", "Com 3." Black wires to "NO 1", "NO 2", "NO 3." AC lines attached to L1/L2.

Per Intermatic's online video you're to hold the mode button to turn on network light to complete the setup process in the app - no joy. I tried manually powering each circuit, they light green but no power. I removed a functioning PE1353ME and put tape on wires before disconnecting. In that application, all black wires went to "Timer Power 120v or 240v" with jumpers to each circuit line. I'm at a loss...not sure if my rudimentary electrical skills are biting me in the keester and/or if I've got a defective pool timer. I've attached a photo of PE733P + wiring diagram + PE1353ME (before I removed). I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

I cannot tell if your devices are wired for 120V or 240V from the pictures.

Both your power wires are black which would indicate a 240V circuit with two hot lines. A 120V circuit should have a black hot wire and a white neutral.

But your jumpers on the old timer look like you only take power from one hot line to feed each circuit.

I suspect you have 120V and you have the hot and neutral wires reversed since they are both black. Your jumpers need to pickoff power from the hot wire and not the neutral.

Or I could be totally wrong and your old switch was only switching one hot leg of a 240V circuit which would have been against electrical code.

Electrical wiring is more then match the colors when the people before you used non-standard wiring. If you don’t understand your wiring you need to get someone who does.

Thanks for the welcome and reply! I'm going to take your recommendation to bring in an electrician as I'm not sure what I'm up against. I live in a 1950's house with a pool that was originally put in 1974. I may very well be dealing with non-standard wiring.

One follow-up question for my own understanding of the PE733P timer - assuming load/hot wires for each of the three loads are correctly identified, is it correct based on the wiring diagram that load would go to "com1, 2, 3" and hot wires to "NO 1, 2, 3?"

No.

Hot wires go from the circuit breaker to COM.

Load wires go to the device being switched and connect to NO.

The device being switched is the LOAD.
