Too much water left on solid cover after auto pumping . . .

I am have a solid looploc safety cover over a 20'x50' inground concrete pool (1965). The pump I have sitting on the cover is a Little Giant 1700 GPH and placed in center of pool cover.
The problem I am having is that the weight of the water it leaves on the cover creates a sizable drop in the cover. Has anyone had experience with a different pump that will leave less water on the cover than about 2 inches in depth?

If you can get the discharge end of the garden hose low enough, the water will drain completely once it starts.

Yup, or pretty darn close. My little giant leaves about 1/4-1/2"' of water after pumping.

Make sure you don't have any leaves or other debris in the bottom of the Lil Giant. It does seem to require occasional clearing out of pine needles and such on my cover.

My LG pump leaves 2"+ of water. Don't know if there is an adjustment. It is clean and consistent. But mine is used on an autocover so it's not a concern with that application because the cover is not tight like a safety cover.
