To acid wash or not?

Once the rain finally stops they will be plastering our pool. Question came up if we want to acid wash or not. We are going with a quartz finish (Aruba sky). I was told that not acid washing will provide a smoother finish which we are looking for. Also, it appears there are a couple ways of doing this - one to do a wash prior to fill or after fill to add the acid into the water. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
