Tiny stones in my pump basket

So, I'll begin by saying that my Hayward automatic pool vac picks up everything. It's really quite good.

Anyway, I've noticed lately that increasingly, I'm finding accumulations of tiny pieces of stone in my pump basket after vacuuming. I don't have any stone like this in my yard, so I'm wondering if it's coming from my (sand) filter. Is that a possibility? Or does the filter only contain actual sand?

This is what it looks like:

I just want to make sure I'm not ignoring a problem with my filter or anything like that.

Thanks in advance...

It's not from the filter.

It looks like crusher run, which is a crushed stone used as a base or filler material.

If you're not seeing any in the pool, it might be in the pipes or main drain.

How old is the pool?

The only thing that I can think of is rocks in the main drain or skimmer lines being sucked into the pump basket.

Maybe they have been there all along.

Perhaps a change in the suction configuration caused the rocks to be sucked up?

Thanks for taking the time to consider it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking a maintenance task.
