This renovation has been a journey to put it lightly. Anyway, this morning, we realized that large areas of the back edge of the pool look unfinished as shown in the photos. I'm told that they'll put dirt down so that grass will grow right up to the deck edge. But I guess I thought there was supposed to be a more polished look around all the edges like coping.

What do you guys think? Is this normal? I know it'll look better once grass is butted up, but still, is this standard practice for a pool deck edge to just stop with no "finishing" tile? This pool deck has a lot of dimension as some parts are a step higher than other parts.

Looks like every one Ive seen, mine included.

whew, ok, cool! Thank you. Originally, also, the deck expansion was supposed to go around the palm trees (you can kinda see them in the first pic). We talked about it in the design process several times, and of course, the main guy tries to tell us that wasn't part of the plan. This is the same guy who tried to get us to accept the poor tiling job right around the spa spillover area. But my amazing husband basically set him straight and made it very clear that we're not paying more money for his screw up. I'm so relieved about the edges as well as them keeping their word and correcting the deck design.

With a similar hill to the pool, I used the old patio bricks as a border and added 3/8ths Gravel for a grass clippings buffer.

Now the bricks have the unfinished edge instead of the patio. :ROFLMAO: But the buffer helps trap blowing crud. It's also more to weed, as you see.

@newdude I like what you did! Yes, part of the reason we expanded our pool deck out further from the pool itself is for similar reasons to what you said. Before, the trees around the pool had mulch and no matter what, the mulch and grass clippings would end up in the pool and just made more work that needed. This new design should help minimize the extra skimming and scooping.
