Yes! The crew just finished the decking. Is the space between the decking and coping concerning? Maybe the concrete expands?

No concern. That is your expansion joint. They'll fill that in with a flexible caulk-like material. If like mine, they'll sprinkle sand on it and it will look like grout.

I cannot stand on the concrete yet so got as close as I could. Once the concrete dries and my existing patio is clean it will look much better. The colors will tie together.

Thank you. Lol! I didn’t have chicken bones. One of our friends did and commented on my thread. I had only drink bottles which was resolved quickly.

The expansion joint should be about 3/8" and it should completely separate the deck from the coping.

There is usually a foam that is used to create the expansion joint.

The top portion of the foam gets removed and then caulk is added on top of the remaining foam strip.

It's hard to tell for sure, but it doesn't look like there is a full expansion joint.

The best part of the video “he needs a belt” lol. Thanks for sharing. I can confirm the crew laid the foam over the coping and down the side of the coping, if that makes sense. I couldn’t watch the whole process due to meetings. They did remove the foam. I will call the PB in the morning to ask about the caulk. Is the caulk done on the same day as the decking? Super helpful - thanks so much.

Were your expansion joints filled with caulk on the same day the concrete was poured?

My pool came with my house, I wasn't there for the build. I have since replaced my expansion joint (it's a maintenance item), which is why I know a bit about it... I expect there is no hurry. They can't work on the deck for a while, so I'm sure they'll get to it at the appropriate time, ideally before it starts to rain.

There is usually a foam that is used to create the expansion joint and spoke with my PB. PB confirmed they did lay poly-foam and I can see it now (see photo). Thanks for your help, again.
