The little plastic "legs" on the Betta SE are too short

Hello all
When my water level gets down to a certain level, my SE gets stuck on the top step. Sure, the white pegs are extended, but they only have one click option and descend so far.

Has anyone come up with some longer homemade option to lengthen them?

Yes, I can obviously add more water, but I'm hoping that rain will do that.
I also thought of putting some plastic item(s) on that top step to block the robot from getting in there - filled Coke bottles, for example, or something else.
