The disappearing reappearing potency trick

I bought a box of four 10% bottles of chlorinator at Rural King over a year ago and am down to a half gallon left. At first I got all scientific about dilution testing to see how it degraded, but as time went I got less diligent and settled for empirical results.

So, year old 10% is/was computed to a number I no longer recall, but adding 80 g. to 515 gallons yielded an increase of 2 ppm, and again, guestimation, was losing 1/2 to 3/4 ppm after purging but eventually rose to (an empirical) 1 ppm with water that's in there since October.

This and having computed bather load, my additions were pretty close to test results several months ago, but recently CHL is testing higher than expected, and accumulates. I get dried deposits on the bottle cap, and they flake off, salts I presume, and wonder if they add back anything, but mostly my first thought was the ozone generator failed. I still see bubbles on the lowest jet I thought it was plumbed to, but no idea if the check valve is any good as I haven't removed the access panel this fill.

All told, I'm also thinking as the bleach concentration gets lower, it probably depletes more slowly, but, it shouldn't "bump" back up. My second thought is something got in there that skews test results, but I have no idea what, as I only add MA. I don't check CYA, so perhaps that's degraded but I'd be at a loss to presume it's part of this "equation".

This is weird to me, just thought I'd throw it out there and see if there were any thoughts (just updated signature).
