This is my second year taking care of a 35 year old pool. Last year just used trichlor pucks. The results were as expected. Started out ok, but water was always a little cloudy and got worse by the end of the year. Judged how many pucks to use by algae starting to form. I didn't do any testing.
This year I committed to the Trouble Free Pool System and bought the TF-100 test kit. I had to patch holes in the stainless steel filter housing and by the time I was done the pool was a swamp, with tons of green pudding on top. This was after replacing most of the water due to high CYA levels.
I SLAMed the pool and everything worked great and achieved sparkling water.
I am currently doing another SLAM since I had to let the pool go without chlorine due to outside issues.
Thanks again
