Just curious what others opinion on swimming in friends or neighbors pools who don't subscribe to the TFP method? I'm sure we all have a friend or neighbor that we haven't converted to the TFPC methods yet. Am I the only one that doesn't really want to get in their pool knowing they trust the pool stores? :p I just can't help but think when I see pictures on social media of their pools, "I bet your CYA is through the roof." hah.

Oh u are definitely NOT alone ! I thankfully was telling a GF my pool story with my aunt and also with another person whose house we were invited to a pool party to and the pool was cloudy and dirty, and she remembered it and wouldn’t get in this guy’s pool bc he had yellow algae!

I am a total snob and I am ok with that !

I had a friend ask me how much I spend on my pool every year. When I told him that I spent about $300 per year, INCLUDING the electricity for the pumps, AND the water used to top it off, he muttered something about it probably being a swamp, or unhealthy to swim in. That is when I pulled out my phone, and showed him the pictures of what my pool looked like on opening day just after pulling the cover off...

I pointed out the fact that there were time stamps on the pictures as proof that I didn't have time to do much between them.

I then asked him if he had any pictures of his. (That was the end of the discussion)

So, yup I am a TFP Pool Snob.

I have rented housed with pools and spas. First thing I do is look for a test kit in the house to check basic CL and PH. Usually isn't one and I go buy one at a local pool store. Really have to start packing one. That usually ends up with a call to the owner or management company to get their pool guy out ASAP as there is often little to no CL and high PH. I usually get an initial argument that pool comes every week and no other renters have complained. I tell them my numbers and what they should be and get their pool guy out ASAP. I also often reset pool pump timer and heater to run at the same time.

Pack your test kit when visiting a friends pool. Then you will know if it is safe to swim and can lead to an interesting discussion.

Public pools give me the heebie-jeebies. We like to cruise, and I won't even set foot in the shipboard pool. The hot tub makes my skin crawl too, but hey, ya' gotta hot tub. It gets easier after a few run punches...

I always feel sorry for the kids with their poor little eyes so red and streaming tears. I saw one indoor pool where you could NOT see the bottom. So not safe but the parents were still letting their kids in it :( Nope, nope, nope!

At my in laws house now. They pay a company to do the chemistry. Water today Is cloudy barely can see the tile turtles in 4 ft water and can't see the cleaner in the deep end. Keeping a close eye on the people brave or naive enough to get in.

The company apparently did not balance over the winter so they got scaling. He sanded down his brand new plaster to make it smooth again a few weeks ago. They must be doing a bang up job with the chemistry :hammer: I got my SWG running again this year, I have not had to add anything in 2 weeks and the water is crystal clear. Not sure why FIL refuses to see the light....

I Guess tapatalk isn't working bc I posted a response to this hours ago. We were invited to a pool party and the pool was filthy and the water cloudy. I had also been chatting with a friend about how I do my pool and how my uncle thought I was an idiot with my test kit and the pool store knew it all and she was invited to a friend's house and when she called to say she would be there in 15, he said he was on the way to the pool store because he had yellow algae and needed to clean it up! She was like...umm NO bc of what I had told her....definitely a snob now. Besides, I don't need anyone else's pool LOL

Depends how good the friend is. ;)

For a basic health check you just need CL and PH drop test.

If you then want to help friend understand what is going on in his/her pool you need CYA, TA, and CC tests.

Over Christmas last year, we stayed at a hotel while visiting family out of town. It had a pool. I tried my hardest to not get in the water but the kids weren't having anything to do with that. They insisted I get it and join them. I was shivering... not from the pool temp, but from fear of what soup I might be swimming in...

CYA too since FC depends on CYA. ;) You could have a FC of 10, but if the CYA is anywhere north of 120ppm, then that's not enough chlorine...
