Don’t worry about TA! As your PH rises it will work it’s wAy down. You would have to raise a PH first, then your getting into a see saw between TA and PH.

oops didn’t refresh and see Mknauss had posted. 🤭

So our TA is coming down! 165 yesterday! Our chlorine is high though, 8. PH 7.5 and CYA was 30. I went to a different pool store in town yesterday because I wanted to pick up some more liquid chlorine, so I took a water sample in. They said not to add anymore acid as the TA is working it's way down. Said to not add more chlorine for a day or two since ours is high. Super knowledgeable and very very helpful gals there. Didn't try to sell me anything at all. Just very friendly and willing to help. They also gave me 20% off for being a new customer. I will for sure go back there to get what I need.
She had asked where we got our pool from and I told her, she said they have gotten a lot of customers who used to go to the place we did. Which doesn't surprise me. The place we got our pool from definitely over promises and under delivers.

I tested our water this morning, but I don't think i get a deep enough sample. Short girl problems and no deck. I'll take a step stool out in a bit to restest, but.... our levels this morning are
FC- 5
pH- 8
TA- 175
I didn't test the CYA level since it was 60 on saturday and we have only used liquid chlorine since.

Do i add more muriatic acid to bring my TA levels down more? I also have 2 boxes of borax that I can add too, to keep the pH from going all over the place while I am trying to lower the TA

Dont worry about your TA, it will come down over time as you adjust your pH. I would bump the pH down a bit with muratic acid, but most importantly you need to get your FC up.

Take a look at the FC/CYA chart in my signature, but at a CYA of 60, FC is the bare minimum for your pool and your target is 7-9.

yep, i plan on adding more liquid chlorine today. I need to stop and get more muriatic acid though.

D,

Welcome to TFP!

I would just bring the pH down with MA then as it rises from aeration the TA will gradually decrease. If you are having difficulty controlling pH a lower TA will help. If that's the case use MA to reduce it per Pool School recommendations ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry. Don't add Borax it will add TA back. Use Pool Math to estimate the amount of MA needed and only reduce .4 pH units at a time.

Watch that FC! You are at the minimum level for your CYA.

It's a good idea to run higher in the range during hot summer months.

Keep us posted on your progress and ask any questions along the way. We have your back!

Chris

PS MA and liquid chlorine are cheaper at big box stores and WM. At Walmart look for Pool Essentials brand in the pool section.
