Tee for Polaris Booster Location

Hello everyone.

I recently had a heat pump and new filter installed and I have a question regarding some plumbing.

I have a booster pump for a Polaris pool cleaner... previously the T for the booster pump was located after my filter. When the new plumbing was put in by the company, the T for the booster was placed right after the pump... before the filter or any other object in the chain.

I’m concerned that this will result in non-filtered water being pumped back into the pool. I talked to the pool guy and he said he can move it to after the heater(I don’t have any auto chlorination) but he doesn’t like to pump hot water through the booster.

Looking for thought/advice on what to do. Thanks.

It needs to be after the filter. Small debris will quickly clog up the screen in the hose in the pool.

If you have the correct amount of flow going to the heater, the water temperature coming out of the heater should not be too hot.

I can probably have the T put at the heater outlet if that’s ok to do that close to the heat pump. Other wise the hose would run from the other side of the heat pump.

Anywhere after the heat pump is fine. The water coming out doesn't get hot. It only goes up a few degrees.

A 140,000 btu/hr heat pump with 40 gpm flow will raise the water temperature by 7 degrees from input to output.

Thanks. That’s what I figured. And I don’t like the idea of pumping non-filtered, non-heated water back around.

I’m going to have him move it. Although he can’t get out for a few days. I want to just do it myself(worked on sprinklers for years) but I don’t want to be liable if something happens to the heater. Ugh.
