I have a 10,000 gallon chlorine pool and my house is next to open space. My TDS is high (3100), but all other chemicals are within range. What would cause this and do I need to be concerned? We have had a lot of smoke in the air recently due to wildfires.

Thanks, John

TDS is a useless value. The constituents of TDS matter. They are CYA, CH, and salt.
How do you chlorinate?

Are you testing for TDS or is that a pool store result? You show using Taylor Test kit. Suggest you test specifically for salt using the K-1766 test kit. That may be your major source of TDS.

Great. Then your salt level is likely the major component of TDS. CH is also likely high if your fill water is high in calcium.

Test your water for CYA and CH. The balance of the TDS will be mostly salt. It is of no consequence to your water chemistry.

Where would the salt come from?
If you look at Pool Math app and the "effects for adding" in the menu. For my pool volume, if I add 1 gal of 10% LC, it will raise FC by 6.8ppm but also raise salt by 11ppm. So if you use a lot of LC in the summer like most of us, expect your Salt to increase. That is why I referenced the need to test salt using the K-1766 salt test earlier.
