stupid question, could i use a regular tarp floating on my pool to stop evaparation instead of solar cover, not worried about the solar/heat effect, I am tired of buying a solar cover every 2 yrs and picking plastic bubbles out of my skimmer. I could put it on my solar cover reel.

The tarp is a safety issue if a person, child, or dog falls into the pool you would not see it and they can be trapped under it and drown.

Any reason you feel a woven tarp would do better ?
I watched my dog instantly turn into a mostly under water burrito when he tried to run across my solar cover. Had his head been under, i wouldnt have gotten him out in time. IMO they are equally as dangerous if one was to fall in.
Echo all of the above. And they won't stay afloat unless it's pinned to your coping/deck even if no one touches it.

Tarps also shed millions of fibers - I used one as a sun shade and it didn’t make it a whole season before it deteriorated
