I dumped all my pool water over the weekend, cleaned things up and refilled. I put in new chemicals and now my numbers are:
FC 1.36
PH 7.26
TA 85-90
CH 200
ORP 740
Salt 50
CYA 0

I made a mistake about the TA of the tap water so I added too much baking soda and now I feel like the TA is too high. I would like it to be around 70 or a bit less. Any advice on how to proceed?

I would not worry about your TA. Just maintain your pH in the 7's and your TA will come down in time.

Thanks, AJ, I think that I'll just continue as is. The PH is going up a bit faster this week but it's not a problem. The water looks very good now so I don't want to fool with it.

I wonder if your pH rises faster when you use the Badu?
They use the Badu Inspiration every day. When I open the pool at 8:00 am, I always turn it on for about 5-10 minutes to thoroughly mix up the water before testing. The pump runs 24/7 (850 rpm unoccupied and 2250 rpm from 8-5). The Badu also helps avoid cold spots in the water. The Badu has a 15 foot massage hose attachment that mixes air with the water and gives a vigorous, forceful muscle massage. I suspect it raises the pH slightly, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I just put in a Sensorex pH sensor this weekend that gives a readout in real time so I can keep track of it better. 094452C0-67B5-41FB-85CE-A7782731A277.jpeg
I have a similar sensor for ORP. These do not automatically add acid or liquid chlorine, but they do tell me at a glance what’s going on with the water. I try to keep the pH below 7.5 and the ORP above 750 mv. The pH sensor needs to be calibrated monthly. In my system, FC between 1.0 and 1.5 keeps the ORP in this ballpark. Adding 8 ounces of MA once a week keeps the pH between 7.2-7.5. I use about a gallon of 12.5% liquid chlorine each week. 54D0521C-E4DB-4F36-9C11-66DAFF230023.jpeg I don’t add any other chemicals on a regular basis. The CH is 200, TA is 90-95 currently.
