T-15 Cell Storage

My Hayward Goldline T-15 was acting funky this year, cleaned it and it showed 000PPM for a few days. During that time I purchased a replacement. Low and behold two days later the cell stabilizes and starts acting reliably (story of my life). Since I know I'm going to need this one eventually anyway, I need to install it and check to see that all is well with the new one before the warranty runs out. So on to the question.

Once a cell is used, are there any precautions that need to be taken for storage? Like does it need to be filled and capped or?

Huge thanks to this forum by the way, this is my first in-ground salt water pool and the differences between this one (Mississippi) and my old above ground (way up in Indiana) were a bit heavy at first. You all have helped tremendously!
