Switching from liquid chlorine to SWG

Our pool season is heading to an end with our closing about 4 weeks away.

However after reading the forum and information on this site I think in the off season I want to switch to a SWG over the Frog Chlorinator. When we originally went into the pool store to start building our pool we wanted a salt water system but the Pool store sales department talked us out of it, showing extra costs of electric upgrades, upgrading hardware in the pool and telling us that in upstate NY we don't have enough months to make it worth a Salt pool. As I have quickly found out it appears that they just want to sell us chemical after chemical in our Frog system and then just blame "its just been a summer where you need more chlorine"

With some reading I think the Circupool Core seems to be a good fit and system as well as DIY install friendly. I'm thinking it may just take the spot of the Frog without much change to the plumbing. I would like to hard wire it to the pump timer which I believe can be done (but it appear the core does not require it to be on the pump timer, it uses a flow switch?)? My question is size, the pool is 20k gallons. Core 35 or 55? Or would the RJ+ system be a better fit.

I am just trying to gather as much information before I fully commit to the swap

You should get a system rated for at least twice your pool size. So a 40k+ or larger. The only downside to larger is $$.

You should also not rely soley on the flowswitch for operation. If it fails (rate but it happens) while the pump is off, gas will build up in the cell and explode. That would be unfortunate.

I’m using an RJ and happy with it, cant saying anything about the core models.

Fully agree with Bperry, getting a bigger SWG only costs a little more, and the advantages far outweigh the cost. I have the RJ60+. This allows me to run my pump fewer hours and at a lower %, so in theory, the cell should last longer. I switched to SWG from liquid chlorine in 2020, and I will never switch back, less labor, no more ruined clothes, more consistent chlorine levels.

Further reading here it appears that the RJ+ is more "popular". I would be looking at the RJ45+ being that I am 20k gallons

Yep. Discountsaltpool often has an upgrade deal to get the next larger cell for $10. Might be an option for you. Even an RJ60+ would work in your case.
