swimming pool lighting question

We are approaching our dig date for our pool and am trying to figure out the lighting needs. The original plan calls for a single Pentair intellibright in the pool and one in the spa. After reading and researching, I had them add two additional lights. The additional lights are Globright mini LEDs. We added one above the pools steps and one at the sun bench.

I am questioning whether we may get by with just one additional light, maybe at the pool steps? To add the two lights including electrical and transformer comes to $1,900. Just trying to see where we may be able to save a little on cost. The pool is a free form 36.5' X 18' X 26.5'

Do you have an outline of the pool and can show us where the lights are proposed to be?

Unless the pool is unusually big or has a lot of curves and cut outs, two pool lights are generally not necessary. Between the mini-LED GloBrites on the steps & shelf, the IntelliBrite and the bubblers (are they the lighted kind?), this pool will be practically visible from space! Typically you want your backyard lighting at night to be warm and comfortable, not Emergency Room Helicopter Transport Landing Pad bright....

My pool is 32 feet long and has 2 20watt Jandy Nichless lights. They are just enough. I'm glad we went with 2 and not 1. I'm also very happy we went with multi-color. They really make the pool look great. Make sure the lights are positioned on the same side as your house/ sitting area so that the light does not shine towards you. That way it makes the pool glow and not feel like headlights.

You for sure need 2 lights one will not be enough for your sized pool.

Oh you can get by with 2 lights in that pool easy! I would keep the one by the entry steps and the second one by the bench on the same side, all facing the spa.

I'd lose the one in the spa.

I'm not sure if you need lights on the sunbench...or are those bubblers lit?

I would recommend one pool light 1 spa light and (2) smaller lights on shelf opposite each other or 1 centered. The light beam on the small one may not cast such a wide angle.

My pool is 15x20x32 and I have one Hayward colorlogic led and 1 smalller nichless centered on the shelf.

I am thinking if I delete the mini LEDs on the entry steps and on the sun bench, I would move the 5G light to the same end as the steps, centered on the end to cast toward the opposite end and keep the spa light.

The bubblers are not lighted.

I personally would move the sun shelf to the entry steps side and incorporate both. They both take up pool space[emoji1]. You can easily cut the steps into the shelf and even have the first step wrap longer for a bench like feel.

Good thread, I'm in the same boat, electrical coming next week and trying to finalize my lighting situation. I have one LED 5G in the center of the pool facing away from the house (eliminated the one on the deep end) and one smaller low volt on my baja deck, for a 18' x 26' pool, I think this is plenty. Thoughts? I don't want it to be too bright, since I'll have landscape lighting around the pool as well.

I would recommend the larger light in the deep end facing the shallow end. The 1 smaller one on Baja shelf. The center will create dark spots on either side.
