Hi all, I recently joined and in the process of setting up a 14' X 42" Intex AG pool. I have a Swimline 4 in 1 test kit that I purchased last season to use for a smaller inflatable top ring pool. I never used the test kit as our pool season was very short due to large dog ripping the pool. Is my test kit appropriate? I plan on purchasing a 1/2 hp sand filter very soon as the small filter/pump that came with the pool doesn't look up for the task. Also what is the correct start up process for chlorinating.

thanks,
Mike

Welcome!

The test kit kind of depends. Are you willing to manage the pool as a temporary/seasonal pool that if something goes wrong on the chemistry you will drain and start over? If so - follow this link to review - Pool School - Guide for Seasonal/Temporary Pools

If you want to manage the water to the point you will not have to drain except at the end of the season and you take the pool down then you would need a more robust test kit like the TF100 from TFTestkits.net

To start the pool you would test for pH. If between 7.2 and 7.8, you would then place 30 PPM worth of CYA granules in a sock or pantyhose and hang it in front of the water return to dissolve. Squeeze the sock often and it will dissolve fast. At the same time, add 3 PPM worth of chlorine using 8.25% plain, unscented, bleach. You would add that daily.

That will get you started. Read through Pool School for more detail. Use Pool Math to determine your chemical volumes.

Take care.
