My pool is new and I have not started up the SWG yet; mostly because I have been trying to repair a leak. But now that the leak is repaired, I am working on balancing the water chemistry and adding salt. Are there any recommendations on how to estimate the amount of salt to add? I, too, have an APC pool cover and am a little hesitant to even use the SWG because of worries of prematurely causing the demise of the cover tracks and mechanicals.

Each gallon of 10% bleach (Sodium hyperchlorite) will add 8 ppm salt. With an autocover you won't have much rain overflow, ever, and you don't close the pool like we do up north needing to drain some.

You'll need a little under a gallon per day of bleach and 400 of those days later you'll have a 'salt pool'.

It's only 10% the salinity of seawater.
