SWG not turning on during daily automation run

Yes we do have a T-15 Cell.. It's about 4+ years old. The pool is about 35000 - 40000.. I think closer to 35 end though.. Bean sized with a 12 person hot tub.

Since we moved in I have usually kept the FCH on the low end. And the dial is set to 80% or higher (Is that norma, having the dial so highl?). I didn't know any better and since it was ok for 3+ years I left it... Embarrassingly to say I always took my water to Leslies and had them test it... Never really had a Chlorine issue... I'll have to check the CYA again at the store... I haven't since I did the SLAM a few weeks ago. I'd like to keep the FC around 3.

That being said here is what I have it set right now.. Please send any suggestions my way..

Automation Run Times:
11:30 PM to 7:30 AM RMP @ 2000 -- We bought the VS to run the pump longer at a lower RPM Speed to save on electricity. I believe I initially had this set to 750 or 1000 initially for quite a few years with no issues.....

1:00 PM - 3:00PM -- I just did this to get the water moving a little in the afternoon sun.. No other reason...

sky,

The reason you have to run at 80% is because your SWCG is a little on the small side for your pool.

If you had to SLAM then I would have to assume that you are not keeping your FC level high enough. Since your % is almost maxed out, the only thing else you can do is run your pump longer.

I would suggest that you lower your Pump's RPM and run it longer. The SWCG will turn on a Low Flow light on the control panel if you run the pump too slowly. If 1,000 RPM worked before, I would try that again, just make sure the low flow light does not come on. If it does, keep increasing the RPM until the light goes out and then add an additional 100 RPM just to make sure.

For reference, I run my IntelliFlo at 1,200 RPM, 24/7, for less than $20 bucks per month..

You really want to keep your FC at the levels shown in this chart (see SWCG Pools chart)... Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart

The relationship between your CYA and FC is very important in making sure you don't get algae. You can find out more about this if you read our Pool School link at the top to this page.

Thanks,

Jim R.
