Greetings, I had to replace the water in my pool because it got flooded with salt water during hurricane Helene. I had some staining on the pool walls that I had never addressed due to the need to bring the chlorine level to zero, so decided to do a stain treatment while there is no chlorine in the pool. I used Suncoast iron and cobalt stain remover. It says not to introduce chlorine for 36 hours, but is that truly necessary? If the staining is gone, would introducing chlorine at 24 hours be OK?

Reintroducing fc too soon or too quickly can bring the stains back. Same with ph.
Not sure what’s actually in this product as I cannot find the msds info. But I imagine its likely some sort of ascorbic or oxalic acid mixture. If your stains were just iron some generic ascorbic acid would have done the trick just the same.
We generally recommend that you use polyquat 60 to prevent algae from forming while your fc is low during stain removal. Also following with some sequesterant going forward to keep the metals you have removed bound up or they will just re deposit unless you exchange the water again with metal free water.
